Measure first. Choose a desk second.
A practical plan for height range, usable surface, and room clearance.

Start with the work you actually do. Lay out your keyboard, mouse, monitor, documents, and frequently used tools. Measure the space they occupy, then check your room for chair movement and access. A desktop can fit a wall and still be too shallow for comfortable screen placement.
OSHA recommends a desk layout that lets the monitor sit directly ahead and at least 20 inches from your eyes. Leave room below the desk for your legs. Compare the desk's usable height range with a keyboard position that lets your shoulders relax and your elbows stay near your body. Check the manufacturer's exact configuration rather than relying on a generic height label.
For a powered desk, read the assembly instructions, top and frame capacity, and cable routing guidance. Plan where plugs and cables will travel throughout the movement range. Our planning suggestion is to use painter's tape to outline the desktop footprint before ordering.
A standing desk supports changes of position. Avoid treating standing all day as the objective: OSHA's evaluation checklist favors opportunities to change activities and postures.
Make a room plan you can actually use
Measure the smallest clear width where the desk will stand, including the baseboard and any radiator, then measure its usable depth. Draw the proposed top with masking tape or cardboard. Pull your chair into its normal working position and back out as if answering the door. Keep this moving area separate from the furniture footprint. A cabinet that fits under a desk may still occupy the space your knees or chair need. Record all measurements in one unit; mixing centimeters with inches is a common comparison error.
Compare the exact surface and frame
Branch Duo offers several desktop sizes, while the Vari 60x30 record identifies a fixed 60-by-30-inch top. That makes Vari's footprint straightforward to draw, while a Duo comparison needs the selected size written next to the family name. FlexiSpot E2-V2 publishes a frame height without a top; adding a desktop changes the finished working height. Compare finished measurements with finished measurements. Do not turn a static-load figure into a lifting capacity. If the official specification does not answer a question, mark it as unknown rather than borrowing a nearby model's value.
Before placing an order
Choose the top size and finish, identify the frame revision, check the control and cable arrangement, and read installation instructions. Make one final measurement at the room itself. A smaller desk is useful only when the equipment, work materials and person can still fit. Keep your room plan to hand while comparing current merchant configurations.
