BenQ GW2790: plan the desk and connection before adding a screen

Turn the documented 27-inch Full HD format into a practical desk plan, with exact-model and laptop-output checks.

Match the exact screen to the task

The retained manufacturer evidence describes GW2790 as a 27-inch Full HD IPS screen with a 100Hz refresh rate and two HDMI 1.4 inputs. GW2790Q is a different QHD model. That single extra letter matters: the two names should not be used interchangeably in a comparison or shopping list. Begin by deciding what information you need visible, then compare the exact display format rather than treating every 27-inch screen as the same workspace.

Draw the physical arrangement

Use the monitor size calculator to estimate the visible panel dimensions from the diagonal and aspect ratio, then use the manufacturer's exact external dimensions for the final desk outline. The calculation does not include the bezel, stand or cable clearance. Mark the stand footprint, keyboard, pointer and the place where documents normally sit. Check that the proposed screen can be positioned without pushing the input area beyond the usable desk surface.

Think about one screen first

Describe the task that would benefit from the added screen: keeping a reference document beside a working file, viewing a timeline or moving a meeting window away from the main work. Try the intended application arrangement on the equipment already available. More display area is useful only if the arrangement supports the routine. An added screen can also introduce another place to look, another cable and a larger physical footprint.

Plan two screens deliberately

If the goal is a dual-display desk, draw both displays at the intended angle and identify which one will carry the primary work. Two diagonal measurements cannot be added to obtain a precise desk-width requirement. External dimensions, angle, gap and stand positions all contribute. Leave the arrangement adjustable on paper until the physical fit is clear. If monitor arms are part of the plan, separately verify each display's mount, weight and the desk's mounting requirements.

Check the video path

Write the connection as a chain: computer output, any dock or adapter, cable and exact monitor input. A connector shape alone does not prove the whole chain supports the intended configuration. If using a laptop, check its current external-display limits for the exact model and operating system. CalDigit TS4 is a dock option in our catalog, but the dock does not override the host computer's display limits. Check compatibility before including it as a required purchase.

Compare readable working space

Full HD and QHD are distinct resolutions, even at the same diagonal. Compare the intended application layout and text size using the operating-system scaling settings you expect to use. Do not assume a higher refresh-rate label answers the question of how much document detail you can comfortably display. Office Home Supply has not measured the GW2790's color accuracy, motion behavior or performance beside another monitor, and this guide makes no test-based ranking.

Finish the selected package

Once the physical and connection plans work, confirm the exact GW2790 US package, supplied items and current merchant total. Include required cables or adapters only after checking what the package contains. Save the plan with unresolved questions clearly marked. If the arrangement remains uncertain, keep the monitor as a comparison candidate rather than describing the whole setup as compatible. A useful purchase starts with a specific screen, a plausible desk position and a complete connection path you have actually checked.
